Waves of ruin, waves of fortune: all have passed over Alanasia.
This ancient land is divided into two distinct regions, north and south, by a great ridge of mountains. The north region, cool and temperate, has been ravaged by the Second Rift. What pockets of population remain are either huddled among the highest peaks and ridges of northern mountain ranges, or taking refuge behind the Great Barrier on the eastern shores of the continent.
The southern region is dry and barren, but is very rich in minerals, some with semi-magical and magical properties. The relative poorness of the soil have created pockets of population that are all dependent on trade in some form or another for survival. All contact between north and south has been severed after the Second Rift.
